EDINA, Minn. – Nov. 19, 2013 – Together, Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, and Omni Water Solutions have treated more than 245,000 barrels of flowback and produced water from Texas’ Eagle Ford shale hydraulic fracturing operations.

Already in operation in Karnes County since June, Omni’s HIPPO® mobile water treatment unit – which includes both Dow ultrafiltration and DOW FILMTEC™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane technologies – is being used by another leading operator in Gonzales County to reduce water hardness and boron, and enable reuse of the cleaned water for drilling and hydraulic fracturing operations.

The Gonzales County Operator has been using Omni’s HIPPO mobile treatment unit in a water recycling project to convert produced water into freshwater, brine, and hydro-carbon streams. The project’s goal is to reduce boron levels from 90 parts per million to less than 5 parts per million in the fresh water stream, so it is compatible with gel frac formulations, and can be reused in subsequent well operations without having to blend in additional fresh water.

“Dow technologies serve a critical purpose in our HIPPO mobile units, which deliver cost-effective and sustainable water management solutions for our customers in hydraulic fracturing operations,” notes Warren Sumner, CEO of Omni Water Solutions. “By working together, we’ve extended what can be done with chemistry and membrane technology, applying solutions in unique ways to deliver advanced performance at an affordable price.”

The reuse of produced and flowback water is of high significance to oil and gas operators, particularly due to local water shortages and historically dry conditions in the region.  Water reuse allows operators to minimize the use and cost of freshwater resources, while reducing complexities surrounding local wastewater disposal and onsite wastewater trucking.

“We are applying advanced technology from other vertical markets where we have decades of experience to the constantly evolving oil and gas industry,” remarks Snehal Desai, global business director of Dow Water & Process Solutions. “Our innovations and solutions help operators improve shale oil and gas recovery, while minimizing environmental impact to facilitate sustainable water management throughout the hydraulic fracturing process.”

After the process, fracturing fluids return to the surface and must be effectively cleaned with advanced treatment solutions to remove high levels of solids, organics, and other impurities.  Over the longer term, produced water is brought to the surface contaminated with rapidly changing and difficult-to-remove elements such as calcium and boron from the formation rock.  By applying an integrated set of advanced treatment technologies with an automated control system, Omni is able to deliver consistent water quality so operators can reuse produced water with superior results.

Over 140,000 barrels of produced water treated by Omni’s HIPPO mobile platform since June 2013

Austin, TX – September 18, 2013 – Omni Water Solutions, Inc., a provider of highly efficient and automated mobile systems for water treatment and re-use, is treating flowback and produced water in the Eagle Ford shale of South Texas to reduce boron and enable re-use of the cleaned water for drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

Since June 2013, Omni’s HIPPO® mobile water treatment unit has been used in a Marathon Oil water recycling pilot project to convert produced water into fresh water, clean brine and hydro-carbon streams. The objective in this pilot was to reduce boron levels from 90 parts per million to less than 5 parts per million in the fresh water stream.  Omni’s HIPPO® has successfully met Marathon Oil’s request and has treated over 140,000 barrels to date, with results verified by analysis from three different independent labs.

Omni Water Solutions offers the 2,500-barrel per day and 10,000-barrel per day HIPPO® system for treating brackish, flowback and produced water. These mobile units come equipped with the company’s patented OctoZone® technology, a real-time sense and respond automation system that enables oil and gas operators to treat and re-use water at a lower cost with more consistent results. After treatment through the platform, the water can be re-used in subsequent drilling and completions instead of lost to disposal.

“Omni is proud to be part of this project to find ways to re-use Texas water,” said Warren Sumner, CEO of Omni Water Solutions. “Our goal is to enable our customers to efficiently and economically drill and complete their wells while minimizing the amount of water consumed in the process.  By treating and re-using produced water onsite, we have also reduced truck trips needed to transport waste water, which takes trucks off the road and out of the lease location.”

Omni Water Solutions will be exhibiting at the DUG Eagle Ford Conference September 17-19, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas and can be found at booth #2113.

Austin, TX – January 07, 2013 – Omni Water Solutions, Inc., a provider of highly automated mobile water systems for water treatment and re-use, has received a statewide permit by the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) to operate commercial water recycling units in all Texas shale plays. The permit enables the company to deploy mobile water treatment services to the Permian and Eagle Ford shales for several large independent operators to use in commercial operations early this year.

“We received this permit after demonstrating to the Texas Railroad Commission our unique ability to effectively recycle a variety of flowback and produced waters from across the state, as well as our capacity to continuously monitor and control our output water quality,” said Billy Roberts, Director of Research and Design for Omni Water Solutions. “Omni’s ability to provide an audit trail of that quality provides assurances to both the operator and the RRC that our treated product is optimized for re-use in future well-completion activities.”

Omni Water Solutions offers the HIPPOTM platform for frac’ing operations. These mobile units come equipped with the company’s patent-pending OctoZoneTM technology, a real-time sense and respond automation system that enables oil and gas operators to treat and re-use produced water at a lower cost with more consistent results. After treatment through the platform, the water can be re-used in subsequent wells instead of lost to disposal.

“Oil and gas operators are choosing Omni because our mobile water treatment platforms can produce both fresh water and clean brine at prices that compete with transport and disposal fees,” said Warren Sumner, CEO of Omni Water Solutions. “Obtaining this permit was a crucial step in rolling out our platforms and services for operators this year.”

Here’s a quick excerpt:

For over 20 years, ATI has had the privilege of working with some of the most innovative start-ups in the country. We asked several to look back at their time with ATI and share their experiences in a project we’ve called Member Company Spotlight. We hope their insight will help future start-ups achieve the same success (or avoid similar pitfalls) as our accomplished member companies.

What was the inspiration for your company?

The inspiration for Omni was drawn from our CTO Wayne Wolf’s deep passion and extensive experience for finding and developing innovative water treatment solutions. Water is a precious resource of ours and we have to find efficient ways to treat it and reuse it. Since Omni was started, we have assembled an extremely talented team of individuals who all share this vision and are focused on providing the best technology possible to meet these needs.
